The new Pinpoint ultra-compact GPS-IMU motion pack developed by AB Dynamics uses dual survey-grade GPS receivers and high performance inertial sensors to give a single-box navigation solution that fits in the palm of a hand.
Using industry-standard OxTS technology, the Pinpoint has a plug-and-play Ethernet interface for use with AB Dynamics’ driving robots or a laptop running Navsuite software. The precision of its low-latency outputs, thanks to state-of-the-art calibration and advanced algorithms, makes it ideal for path-following and general use on the proving ground.
The Pinpoint motion pack is designed to enable highly accurate measurements to be made quickly and easily for a wide range of vehicle tests. It brings the convenience and dependability of high-end motion packs to a new price-point. Dual GPS receivers give accurate heading angles even at low speeds or when stationary.
Powered by the technology used in the industry-standard RT3000 range of motion packs from OxTS, the Pinpoint has tight integration of the inertial and GPS channels giving smooth and accurate measurements. Unlike GPS-based systems, the Pinpoint can be used even in environments with GPS outages (such as trees or bridges) as the inertial integration allows uninterrupted outputs with minimal drift when passing obstacles.
As this is a single-box navigation system, installation and setup is incredibly simple, there’s no need to connect up multiple boxes or configure complex CAN set-up options. A single Ethernet output connects to an AB Dynamics driving robot, or to a PC if used without a robot, and a simple configuration wizard runs on an Ethernet-connected PC.
