Minsup Lee has been appointed Hyundai America Technical Center vice president (HATCI). In this newly created role, Lee will assist HATCI president William Freels in leading Hyundai’s design, technology and engineering activities for the North American market. Lee will coordinate with the Hyundai research and development headquarters in Namyang, South Korea.
“The US automotive market is one of the most challenging for overseas auto makers, so Hyundai dedicates exceptional resources to satisfying the American customer,” said Lee. “I am honored to accept this role at a time when HATCI is increasing responsibility for vehicle development and entering its 30th year of operations.”
Lee has been with Hyundai for 20 years, most recently as the director of the overseas R&D management team at Hyundai Motor Company. He holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in the state of New York, and a Masters in mechanical engineering from Oklahoma State University, both in the USA.
