AVL now offers a comprehensive Series Battery Benchmarking package. The purpose of this tool is to provide valuable technical and commercial information to AVL’s customers. During the benchmarking process more than 240 criteria are measured, assessed and benchmarked by skilled battery engineers and the extracted development targets are pointed out so as to support current and future battery development. Battery attribute ratings are defined and derived through benchmarking by quickly analyzing a product’s or company’s position on the market at the first glimpse into the report.
The AVL Series Battery Benchmark service does not simply tear down a battery. The process starts with a series of vehicle measurements – analysis of the battery-related parts of the operation strategy and controls system – followed by analysis of the battery on a testbed focusing on the thermal, electrical and mechanical subsystem maturity.
The teardown of the battery ultimately analyzes the electrical components and their safety strategy, module safety, cell life, crash safety and overall cost, based on a detailed bill of materials. Further assessment enables the grading of the battery against competition in the eight defined battery attributes: performance, driver experience, efficiency, safety, engineering requirements, production capability, serviceability and cost.
