Simulation solutions specialist Cognata has announced a collaboration with Microsoft that will see Cognata’s advanced AI simulation integrated into Microsoft’s software-defined vehicle (SDV) development toolchain to help OEMs advance their automated driving validation and integration processes.
At CES 2024 in Las Vegas, Nevada, Cognata will showcase its capabilities at Microsoft’s Experience Center. The demonstration will highlight the integration of Synopsys’s virtual prototyping solutions for virtual electronic control units (vECU) with Cognata’s deployment of SimCloud on Azure. According to the companies, this deployment enables the complete virtualization of traditional hardware-in-the-loop (HiL) tasks in the cloud environment, providing virtual, endless and scalable possibilities while reducing the need for physical hardware.
Cognata is now one of Microsoft Azure’s strategic simulation partners, and its simulation technology helps provide an end-to-end toolchain, incorporating developer toolchains, high-performance computing (HPC) capabilities and versatile control planes for various environments.
The collaboration spans sensor solutions, closed-loop systems and HiL solutions, aligning with Microsoft’s reference architectures for the SDV end-to-end toolchain and autonomous vehicle operations (AVOps). The comprehensive process evaluation covers perception to control and is integrated into a single platform.
The integration aims to transform the deployment and scaling of the SimCloud product, offering users a fully integrative solution to work with other toolchain products.
“In a digital twin environment, AI algorithms can be tested and iterated rapidly, accelerating the learning process and leading to quicker improvements in AI behavior and capabilities,” said Danny Atsmon, CEO and founder of Cognata.
“Collaborating with Microsoft’s SDV cloud architecture and Synopsys’s virtual ECU facilitates extensive and concurrent simulation runs, shifting left and accelerating the development process significantly.”
Dominik Wee, corporate vice president of manufacturing and mobility at Microsoft, added, “This collaboration among Cognata, Microsoft and Synopsys will help expedite the deployment of automated driving systems by providing developers with the tools to build and test software with unprecedented efficiency and speed.”
