Test and engineering specialist Idiada has announced that it has been appointed the sole laboratory in Europe and the USA for conducting ASEAN NCAP testing for new assessment programs on vehicles aimed at the Southeast Asian region.
The company notes that its headquarters near Barcelona, Spain, is already an officially accredited Euro NCAP laboratory, while its safety lab in California holds a contract to conduct official US NCAP testing.
Idiada’s director for body and passive safety, Joaquim Huguet, commented, “I am proud to announce the ASEAN NCAP accreditation of Idiada’s test facilities in Europe and the USA. Our commitment to support the development of safer vehicles is global. This new accreditation also reflects our commitment toward the ASEAN region, where Idiada is established in Malaysia and Thailand.”
The agreement was made effective on August 10 through a Memorandum of Understanding signed by the ASEAN NCAP’s Secretary-General, (Ir. Dr.) Adjunct Prof. Khairil Anwar Abu Kassim; Joaquim Huguet; and Idiada USA Director Carlos García.
The New Car Assessment Program for Southeast Asian Countries (ASEAN NCAP) is the ninth NCAP program in the world, and was formed in 2011 based on a collaborative effort between the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) and Global New Car Assessment Program (Global NCAP).
