Provider of testing, consulting, information and compliance services, Smithers has announced that its vice president of consultancy, Josh Guilliams, will be giving a presentation on polymer material sustainability on the Technology Presentation Stage at the Automotive Testing Expo 2022 in Novi, Michigan October 25, 26, 27, 2022.
The presentation, Polymer material sustainability: the journey is just beginning, is scheduled to take place on the morning of Wednesday, October 26 and will include talking points on current polymer material trends and factors which affect demand. Other topics during Guilliams’ speech will include the researching of key alternate raw materials to improve sustainability.
In his role as vice president of consultancy, Guilliams is responsible for leading the company’s technical consulting team in Akron, Ohio, USA. He also conducts in-depth investigations on an array of rubber materials and final products on behalf of clients. Guilliams has a BSc in chemistry and engineering from Baldwin Wallace University and a masters in polymer science from the University of Akron.
Prior to joining Smithers, Guilliams held leadership roles at Polymer Valley Chemicals and technical and commercial roles at Hankook Tire, Eastman Chemical Corporation, Lanxess Corporation and Bridgestone Americas Tire Operations.
“In the automotive industry, there have been tremendous efforts over the past few decades to improve the overall environmental footprint at the full vehicle and individual component levels,” said Jim Popio, PhD, vice president at Smithers’ materials science and engineering division. “Large strides have been made in the areas of renewable materials, end-of-life recycling and lightweighting, but the industry still has a long way to go.
“Testing and validation have a huge part to play in exploring opportunities for continued improvement – and reducing potentially negative unintended consequences. Josh has years of experience in materials and sustainability, and his perspective on this subject will be incredibly valuable for anyone who attends the Automotive Testing Expo this year.”
