Many considered it a bold move when Chevrolet decided to move to a mid-engine configuration for its flagship Corvette C8, but by and large, the car’s reception since its introduction in 2019 has been positive. Not least because the car succeeded in bringing a new level of both performance and ‘exotica’ to the mass market, as has always been the goal for the Corvette brand.
In the first of this multipart documentary series, the company charts the initial design concept stage of the C8’s development, from the first discussions around a mid-engine platform back in 2011, and the reasoning behind the shift, through to the impact it had on elements such as the interior layout.
