Pet restraint and carrier company Sleepypod has expanded its line-up of crash test pets with the addition of two new crash test dogs, Dash 1.0 and Duke 3.0. These new additions join Sleepypod’s team of nine crash test dogs and cats, all designed and built in-house to enhance the safety of pet products.
“Crash test pets are critical for testing Sleepypod’s car safety restraints throughout the product design process so that we can expose possible flaws that could compromise the safety of a pet in a car crash,” commented Michael Leung, Sleepypod co-founder and lead product designer. “Sleepypod’s crash test pets take the hard knocks in crash-testing as part of Sleepypod’s Safety Test Program to help keep pets and the humans who ride with them safer in cars.”
Dash 1.0 is the first Sleepypod crash test dummy designed to represent the sighthound dog breed, characterized by long legs, a deep chest, a wiry body and a lean head. Dash’s weight can be adjusted from 75 to 90lb, and its steel skeleton features an articulated waist and legs. Equipped with a point-of-view camera in the neck and a g-force sensor, Dash records valuable crash test data. Watch Dash 1.0 in action.
Duke 3.0 is the latest iteration representing a German Shepherd. Similar to Dash, Duke’s weight is adjustable from 75 to 90lb, with a steel skeleton and articulating waist and legs. Duke 3.0 is equipped with a g-force sensor to measure the overall pressure during a collision, unlike its predecessor Duke 2.0, which used load cells to measure chest compression.
