Advanced design and validation solutions business Keysight Technologies has announced the enhanced Scienlab Regenerative DC Emulator (SL1800A Series).
Keysight Technologies’ high-power direct current (DC) emulator for electric vehicle (EV) fast-charging applications enables customers to undertake high-power DC charging tests up to 270kW in a small footprint, unlike conventional high-power DC test systems, which are often cumbersome and take up a large amount of space within a lab. Furthermore, these traditional systems are often inefficient and use a huge amount of energy to run and to also keep laboratory areas cool during high-power tests.
The SL1800A Series includes a regenerative system that returns power to the grid when acting as an electronic load during EV battery emulation/charging tests. Furthermore, state-of-the-art silicon-carbide (SiC) wide-bandgap semiconductors help reduce energy costs when operating the system. Keysight Technologies states that only 4% of the system’s power is lost as heat.
By using the Scienlab Regenerative DC Emulator, customers can emulate high-voltage and high-power EV batteries in charging test applications. This includes high-power DC fast charging when paired with the company’s SL1047A Scienlab Charging Discovery System. This solution can emulate EV batteries up to 1,500V up to 900A and can be run in parallel to achieve up to megawatts.
“Our next-generation high-power DC emulators, based on silicon-carbide technology, are greater than 96% efficient and provide more power and higher voltages in less space when compared with similar systems,” said Thomas Goetzl, vice president and general manager of Keysight’s Automotive & Energy Solutions business unit. “When combined with the SL1047A Charging Discovery System, it enables our customers to test all aspects of high-power DC fast charging in their labs.”
