Applus Idiada has opened a new cutting-edge Battery Safety Lab expanding its testing and validation capabilities for the safety and performance for battery systems in the automotive industry.
The new lab spans over 2,000m2 dedicated to battery abuse testing, making it one of the largest and most comprehensive facilities of its kind. The lab can conduct a wide range of tests including thermal propagation, fire resistance, drop tests, crush and water immersion. These procedures enable Applus Idiada to evaluate and improve product performance under various challenging conditions, ensuring they meet strict safety and quality standards.
On the safety front, the lab is equipped with an environmental protection system, including gas scrubbing and water treatment, thus preventing any harmful effects on the environment that could arise from the rigorous testing procedures.
The laboratory also supports Applus Idiada’s comprehensive battery engineering services which cover the entire development process, from initial cell selection and integration to virtual development techniques.
“This new Battery Safety Lab represents a major leap forward in our commitment to innovation and safety in the rapidly evolving field of battery technology,” said Miquel Maureso, head of e-powertrain at Applus Idiada.
