Testing provider Smithers has promoted Matt Kent to the role of general manager of the Smithers Tire & Wheel Test Center. In this position, Kent will be tasked with leading the facility and ensuring that accurate data is delivered on time to customers.
In addition to general management, Kent will also be responsible for researching and developing new capabilities that align with the changing requirements of the company’s tire and wheel customers.
Kent joined Smithers in 2017 in the position of technical director of the Smithers Tire & Wheel Test Center where he looked after the Smithers force and moment testing operations, the facility’s staff and technical decision making. He has also managed Smithers’ partnership with six tire manufacturers that introduced the MTS Flat Trac CT+ system and a facility expansion to the Smithers Tire & Wheel Test Center in 2018.
Kent brings to the new role 23 years of experience in the tire industry, in the areas of machine design, operation and use, and the management of capital-intensive assets and people. Previously, Kent worked in the research and development department of the Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company for 17 years.
“With his years of experience in the tire industry and his deep expertise in testing and validation, Matt can offer unmatched support to our valued clients and shape the future of the Smithers Tire & Wheel Test Center based on their visions for the future of tire development,” said Jim Popio, PhD, vice president, Smithers Materials Science and Engineering Division.
