British startup Streetdrone has launched its first autonomous vehicle – the Streetdrone One. The team of ex-F1 engineers based near Oxford has built the car based on the Renault Twizy. The Streetdrone One features six HD cameras, 4G connectivity and is powered by NVIDIA technology, which provides smarter data collection and sharing.
“What makes StreetDrone One so unique is that it allows businesses to focus on their specific area of interest in the self-driving market and customize the testbed to their requirements,” said Mark Preston, CEO at Streetdrone. “This significantly reduces the complexity of research and saves both time and money as the industry seeks to rapidly expand.”
The US$65,000 vehicle will be used to test both future engineering and software solutions by students. “We’re using F1 technology to gain new insights into how we can make autonomous cars safer, more efficient and more reliable, while putting them to the test in real-world conditions,” noted Preston.
