Nio’s latest electric vehicle, the EL6, has received a top five-star safety rating from Euro NCAP. This achievement marks the fourth Nio model to achieve the highest safety rating, joining the ET5, its Touring derivative and the EL7.
The top Euro NCAP rating is awarded to vehicles that have “overall excellent performance in crash protection and are well equipped with comprehensive and robust crash avoidance technology”.
The EL6 demonstrated impressive performance in various safety test categories. It scored 93% in adult occupancy, 85% in child occupant safety, 78% in vulnerable road user safety and 76% in safety assist tests. It is available in Denmark, Germany, Norway, the Netherlands and Sweden
Key to the test result was EL6’s standard safety features and its ultra-high-strength steel-aluminum hybrid body, says Nio. The latter contributed to the EL6 achieving excellent results in frontal collision protection.
The EV also uses ultra-long-range roof mounted lidar sensors, which were useful in the more challenging tests.
With Euro NCAP’s tests now covering more than 100 active safety scenarios, the EL6’s technologies are designed to not only protect occupants but also vulnerable road users like pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists.
The tests highlighted that the EL6’s doors can be opened within two minutes of power loss, and its electric windows remain functional long enough for occupants to escape if submerged.
