Testing specialist Element Materials Technology (Element) has bought a new GOM Tritop 3D measuring system for photogrammetry testing in the transportation sector.
The new system, which will be based at Element’s Wednesbury, UK, laboratory, provides an extensive and accurate measurement testing service for vehicles and their associated components. Being portable, the system also enables three-dimensional objects to be measured quickly and precisely, whether pre- or post-testing, in laboratory or on-site.
Rob Veitch, EVP of fire and building products at Element, said, “Photogrammetry is not a new science, but it is one that has evolved with advances in digital technology. This is a cost-effective measurement tool that is used to monitor quality on the production floor quickly, effectively and efficiently. It will significantly help our clients to improve quality and turnaround times, while the ability to test on-site makes the process much more convenient.”
Photogrammetry is beneficial in automotive testing for both internal and external components. It can help with the assessment of body-in-white (BIW) structural movement under force and internal components after exposure and it can be used to make measurements when a component is subjected to climatic conditions.
