NHTSA has awarded Diversified Technical Systems (DTS) with a contract to integrate Slice 6 in-dummy DAS into the THOR-50M. THOR will be the first automotive ATD integrated with Slice 6, and will be later introduced in the WorldSID, Hybrid III and the Q-Series dummies.
Slice 6 is an ultra-small data acquisition system developed by DTS for the US Army WIAMan blast test dummy. WIAMan supports over 150 channels of Slice 6 data acquisition and sensors embedded throughout the manikin. With a footprint of just 24 x 30 x 10mm, the unit is nearly 50% smaller than DTS’s existing Slice Nano in-dummy solution. A key feature is the unique plug-on sensor system which reduces in-dummy cabling and connectors by up to 75%, for an ultra-compact integrated solution. The high-speed Gigabit IEEE 1588 Ethernet enables PTPv2 daisy-chaining of hundreds of channels per test set up. Data is written directly to flash memory for store-in-place reliability.
“The US Army has tested both Slice 6 and WIAMan in over 600 laboratory and live-fire tests. We’re more than confident that Slice 6 will deliver that same reliability for THOR,” commented Steve Pruitt, DTS president and co-founder.
