VBox Automotive has released a new testing solution for automotive engineers. Useful for validating speed limit information function (SLIF) and intelligent speed assist (ISA) systems, it uses the versatile VBox Touch platform to offer an SLIF app and event marker box. This results in simplified testing while enabling accurate and efficient data collection.
The EU regulations mandate intelligent speed assist for all new vehicles from July 2024 and from 2026 as a part of the Euro NCAP Safe Driving Vehicle Assistance Protocol.
The VBox SLIF event marker box allows engineers to confirm that vehicle-displayed speeds match real-world signage. With one button to confirm matching speed data and another to log specific events for post-analysis, this feature supports accurate, actionable insights into SLIF performance.
The VBOX Touch SLIF app streamlines data tracking by allowing test engineers to document time spent driving across urban, inter-urban and highway environments, and the proportion of day versus night driving – a key component of testing requirements. The app interface has dedicated buttons on its touchscreen for engineers to mark when they switch road types or transition to night driving.
Throughout the test, engineers can monitor real-time compliance with the True Positive_Distance (TP_D) metric – an indicator of the percentage of time the vehicle’s display accurately matches real-world speed signs. The system can also detect whether the test qualifies for an early stop. If TP_D consistently remains within a ±5% tolerance over the final 50km, the total driving time can be reduced from 400km to 300km. This option to conclude tests early saves significant time and resources.
For in-depth analysis and post-processing review of event markers, the VBox Touch can synchronize with a VBox HD2 unit, linking video footage with data events. The CAN output from the VBox Touch can also be used to add a graphic overlay to display the key data metrics over the footage. This provides engineers with comprehensive visual feedback on SLIF and ISA accuracy.
The VBox Touch CAN output is also available for connection to any other datalogger or relevant equipment within a wider test setup. The SLIF and ISA testing solution is now available to order.
