The Alfa Romeo engineering team recently wrapped up a rigorous test session with the ’00 prototype’ of the new 33 Stradale at the Nardò circuit. They pushed the car to its limits, focusing on its driving dynamics and performance at extreme high speeds. During the tests, they fine-tuned key elements including aerodynamics, top speed, heat management, cooling systems and cabin soundproofing. With these assessments complete, the team is now preparing for the car’s first delivery in Italy, expected at the end of December.
For their high-speed testing, Alfa Romeo chose the Nardò Technical Center (NTC) in Salento, Italy. Among its 20 tracks, the iconic Nardò Ring was the highlight, according to Alfa Romeo. The team put the 33 Stradale prototype to the test on this track, validating its target top speed of 207mph (333km/h) and 0-62mph acceleration in under three seconds.
Before heading to Nardò, the Alfa Romeo team conducted dynamic tests at the Balocco Proving Ground in Vercelli province in northern Italy. Here, the engineers focused on medium- and high-speed tests to fine-tune balance, braking and road handling. The initial tests at Balocco were run at moderate speeds to assess the steering system’s precision, braking response and overall handling characteristics. These evaluations were shaped by the car’s advanced engineering, including its aluminum H-frame, carbon-fiber monocoque and meticulously designed suspension system.
On select sections of the circuit, Alfa Romeo testers pushed the 33 Stradale to near its top speed with traction control disengaged. According to the company, the Balocco tests emphasized the braking system’s precision and adaptability to different driving modes.
