Alpine’s future full-electric hot hatch, the Alpine A290, has been undergoing extensive testing in Sweden near the Arctic Circle since the start of the year.
The tests have focused on fine-tuning the car’s low grip characteristics in extreme weather conditions, including temperatures below -30°C, with Alpine’s technical teams testing the A290 prototypes on tracks and open roads.
Dynamic performance has been a key focus for the A290, with attention given to engine responsiveness, driving precision and agility, even in extreme conditions. Various equipment, including heating, defogging, defrosting, and Electronic Stability Control (ESC) on snow, have also been tested.
During its first official outing, the A290 featured Alpine’s original camouflage, the ‘A-Arrow’ logo and the Alpine Blue color scheme, along with its sport steering wheel and Michelin Pilot Alpin 5 tires for precise braking and driving.
“Our A290, the future compact B-segment electric sports car, is currently being tested in the extreme and demanding conditions of Sweden’s Lapland. The target of this important stage is to confirm the direction we have taken with handling and agility, which is part of our DNA on low grip conditions,” said Philippe Krief, Alpine CEO.
“Our engineering team has scrutinized all the criteria, and the results bode extremely well for its launch in the coming months.”
