For electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) manufacturers, achieving fast and efficient production and testing poses a challenge, noted Steve Cheng, product manager of the test and measurement business unit at Chroma ATE, while showcasing a variety of EV test solutions at Automotive Testing Expo in Stuttgart. This is especially true for charging stations with multiple charging standards and various charging connectors.
Chroma is displaying its High-Power Charging (HPC) test solution, which pairs the Chroma 8000 EVSE automatic test system with the Chroma 61800 grid simulator and the Chroma 17040/17040E regenerative battery pack test system.
Depending on the application, the system can additionally be equipped with EV or EVSE simulators for various DC charging standards (CCS, CHAdeMO, GB/T, ChaoJi). It can also be set up with a single or multiple-coupler high-power charging test platform based on the specifications of the device under test.
The company’s new software platform, PowerPro 5, can simultaneously simulate up to four electric vehicles with identical or different communication protocols. The software enables the user to control the EVSE for simultaneous multi-coupler output based on the specified test conditions, including simulated plugging in at different times for power division testing.
By enabling test scenarios that closely replicate real charging behavior while significantly shortening overall testing time, this solution effectively expands test capability and coverage.
Both the Chroma 61800 grid simulator and the Chroma 17040/17040E battery simulator have energy recovery capability, reducing equipment power consumption as well as environmental temperatures.
“With the implementation of multitasking software functionality and the availability of different charging simulators, we help users increase output on their EVSE production lines. Equipped with bidirectional power supply devices, the system is also prepared to meet future testing requirements,” says Cheng.
