Test equipment manufacturer Mustang Advanced Engineering (MAE) has delivered an end-of-line (EOL) test stand to zero-emission vehicle manufacturer Lion Electric, including all-electric commercial urban trucks and buses for schools and mass transit.
The end-of-line chassis dynamometer – which was designed and built by MAE – is capable of testing single and tandem axle heavy-duty electric vehicles. The test stand has been developed to conduct quality control testing of on-road electric trucks and buses.
MAE’s system can perform performance testing, functional testing, visual inspections and brake testing. Additionally, the software will be configured to enable the operator to use a wireless tablet with integral barcode scanner to communicate with the control system. The testing system will also be equipped to communicate with the vehicle’s ECM to collect data during the testing process. This includes engine revolutions per minute (RPM), charging status and other parameters.
The software can guide the operator through the testing process without leaving the vehicle. All of the collected data from the test will then be stored on the control PC and can be transmitted to the facility’s host computer if required. Flexible by design, the software can be modified by test engineers to change test parameters and pass/fail limits.
Several other features of the EOL test stand include automatic pop-up restraints to increase vehicle throughput, additional base inertia for superior driveability and an integrated bogie roll set to enable the testing of tandem axle vehicles. Furthermore, there is wheel protection and sound proofing around wheel areas, exhaust gas extraction for the heater/generator and fencing around the dynamometer area for additional safety.
