Ford is expanding electric vehicle R&D in Europe and Asia and as part of this, it will create a “hub and spoke” system that will enable the global team to further accelerate battery technology and take advantage of market-specific opportunities. This expansion will also enable Ford’s electrified powertrain engineering teams to share common technologies and test batteries virtually in real time.
Ford has continuously invested in EV technology and R&D. In 2015, the company expanded its Electrified Powertrain Engineering (EPE) program at the University of Michigan, in Dearborn, USA, where it hired more than 120 additional EV experts and moved the EPE team into its own dedicated facility, the Ford Engineering Laboratory. These capabilities have enabled the team to control a network of facilities in China, the UK, Germany, and the USA.
Ford also is expanding in China and Europe to accelerate battery technology R&D for new markets.
