Horiba has opened its new Biwako E-Harbor facility at its site in Shiga Prefecture, in the Kyoto-Shiga area of Japan where the Horiba Group is headquartered. This is the largest development and production site on the west coast of Lake Biwa.
The center covers an area of approximately 27,500m2 and has 10 floors. Investment including construction costs totaled approximately US$114.9m (¥12bn).
Within the site, an E-Lab integrates all of the information and application development projects that are underway at Horiba’s eight development and testing facilities worldwide.
The company has also joined forces with the Advanced Noise Technologies division of Hühoco to provide comprehensive testing services for friction brakes. For this purpose, the two companies plan to build a test center in Flörsheim near Frankfurt in Germany, which will be open in autumn 2016.
All the necessary test equipment will be installed at the Flörsheim facility including four test benches, one of which being a Horiba Giant brake test dyno for climate simulation. The ultimate aim is to provide independent and objective results for vehicle manufacturers as well as suppliers of friction linings and brakes.
