Hyundai Motor UK has carried out testing to investigate its ability to drive the Hyundai i20 with ‘positive thought’ alone. The testing was carried out in collaboration with Digital Communications agency Gravity Thinking and technologists from The Alphabet Collective.
Hyundai connected EEG (electroencephalogram) headsets that read the brainwaves of participants in the testing, to custom built robotics that applied pressure to the i20’s accelerator and brake. This allowed the user to control the vehicle through the power of thought alone.
Electrodes in the EEG headset with interpreting software detected the participants’ positive thoughts and then applied pressure on the accelerator through the use of actuators; in turn, their ‘neutral thoughts’ were used to activate the brakes.
The participants were selected according to the varying manner in which they used and experienced positivity and optimism in their day-to-day lives.
