BAIC Group is to develop new vehicles using an old Mercedes-Benz E-class platform, reports Automotive News Europe.
The first vehicle will be a mid-sized sedan, which will be launched in 2018 on the domestic market. The platform will also be used to develop SUVs and MPVs.
The vehicles will house powertrains including a 1.8-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, a 3.0-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine, and a six-speed automatic transmission, which are built at Daimler’s passenger vehicle joint venture with BAIC in Beijing.
