Over the last 18 months, the AUTOSAR (Automotive Open System Architecture) development partnership has been restructuring itself and planning a completely new and standardized software platform. Adaptive Platform combines the safety and security of micro-controller-based ECUs with the high performance provided by micro-processor-based multimedia ECUs.
In doing so, the new standard avoids the costly alternative for OEMs and their suppliers of repeatedly developing the critical and complicated functionality of such a software platform with proprietary and individual approaches.
“AUTOSAR’s goal is to optimize the IT structures of modern vehicles, thereby simplifying the work for car manufacturers, suppliers and all other companies involved,” explained Thomas Scharnhorst, AUTOSAR spokesperson.
“By combining high computing power, safety and security, the customizable Adaptive Platform gives all partners a reliable framework to build upon. We are certain that the specifications will have a major impact on the market and will help to further drive future trends such as highly automated driving, cloud services and V2X communication.”
