A groundbreaking new vehicle dynamics simulator developed jointly by MTS Systems Corporation and McLaren Applied Technologies is now in operation.
The flexibility of the VDS enables engineers to evaluate suspension to vehicle steering through to ADAS technology. It integrates MTS’s patented mechanical HIL technology, which enables a physical automotive component or sub-system to be tested as part of the simulation environment.
The fully operational system installed at the McLaren Technology Centre in Woking, UK, incorporates McLaren Applied Technologies’ motion-cueing algorithms. MTS system controls reproduce the motion commands with high fidelity and minimum latency, enabling objective data to be gathered and evaluated.
“This highly sophisticated unit provides a real value proposition to all the organizations participating in different stages of vehicle development,” commented Dick Glover, CTO of McLaren Applied Technologies.
“It will prove highly advantageous not only to the smaller companies which have limited capital to invest in the hardware needed for real world tests, but also the larger established companies as they can get test procedures completed in a much shorter timeframe.”
Find out more at Automotive Testing Expo Europe in Stuttgart, Germany. MTS Systems will be exhibiting at booth 1214.
