In the Pikes Peak Challenge Exhibition Class at the race event held on June 25 at Pikes Peak, Colorado, Faraday Future tested an FF 91 Beta development vehicle using production representative hardware and software, with some tweaks which had been required to run at Pikes Peak. Alongside this the company has launched a new video series on the testing of the car.
“The hill climb on Pikes Peak served as the ideal setting to further develop the electric propulsion system and supporting thermal systems of FF 91,” said Nick Sampson, senior VP of R&D. “Testing the performance of FF 91 in real-world conditions sets the bar even higher as we bring the vehicle to market in 2018.”
Pete Savagian, VP of powertrain and battery systems, “We’re proud of our time, but this is about the quality of our propulsion system more than just a one-time race. Our focus was on repeatability – to reach the peak without overheating the vehicle, and to be able to do so again and again.”
Schute added, “My goal was to push the FF 91 beyond what we thought she could do. We were able to identify key battery pack relay and system seal issues that will directly result in improvements in the production process.”
