Maserati has announced its development and production plans for the company’s Trident-branded electrified range.
The first hybrid to be built will be the Ghibli, while production of the new Maserati GranTurismo and GranCabrio – the marque’s first cars to house 100% electric powertrains – will commence in 2021.
Maserati has decided to build the GranTurismo and GranCabrio – two iconic cars for the Trident brand – at the Mirafiori production hub, at an investment of €800m (US$867m).
This year, Maserati will strengthen the position of its Mirafiori hub as a center dedicated to electrification by allocating a large proportion of its capacity to the production of the brand’s new electrified cars.
In 2020 also, the first of the new Modena-built Maserati models will be its super-sports car. Major modernization work is in progress on the production line at the Modena plant, partly to accommodate the electric version of this car. Work has also started on the creation of a paint shop.
Also due to be launched is a new Maserati utility vehicle, which will be built in Cassino, and will be a front-runner for the brand.
