Triton Construction has secured a £1.5m (US$2m) contract to build a new testing facility for UK gear manufacturer David Brown Santasalo, where the company will analyze new and refurbished gearboxes.
The center piece will be a 5,400ft2 warehouse building at the company’s headquarters in Huddersfield, which will be soundproofed and fitted with anti-vibration measures, as well as all the external works and drainage. At 9m high, the facility’s design enables overhead traveling cranes to be installed for moving gearboxes and equipment.
Triton was selected to build the new facility for David Brown Santasalo following two successful projects that it completed for the company. The projects were two manufacturing and engineering buildings worth £5m (US$6.5m).
Paul Clarkson, managing director at Triton Construction, said, “We are delighted to continue our working relationship with such an admired and prestigious company. We are mindful of the important and confidential nature of the work carried out at David Brown Santasalo and continue to operate discreetly to minimize disruption during site movements. The requirements are also very specialist with considerable weight, sound and vibration proofing that impact on structural as well as underground provisions. We look forward to a continued partnership with David Brown Santasalo.”
Steve Watson, global defense director and managing director UK at David Brown Santasalo, commented, “David Brown Santasalo has won a number of long term major defense projects during recent years, which have required significant infrastructure improvements to the Huddersfield site. Triton Construction has previously built the facilities for the assembly, integration and test of marine gearboxes and has now been selected to build the new land defense gearbox test facility.”
