Calspan: director of sales and business development

Buffalo, New York

Calspan’s Crash Research Facility is a premier independent vehicle crash testing and automotive safety center in North America. With customers that include leading vehicle manufacturers, restraint manufacturers and government regulatory organizations, Calspan is always improving and advancing the science. The company is searching for a motivated director of sales and business development to join the group. The director will support Calspan’s crash testing and research business unit by identifying new opportunities and managing the customer base for retention and growth.

Responsibilities include identifying and closing new business opportunities for the Calspan crash test business unit. Working directly with major government agencies, OEMs, automative companies and other commercial enterprises to demonstrate the value and expertise of Calspan. Directly managing the designated core customer base from a retention and growth standpoint. Participating in the development of project proposals and spending the necessary time with customers to present and document the value and identify new opportunities. Developing strong working relationships with internal and external business partners. Developing and relentlessly implementing a strategic sales and marketing plan that clearly outlines the direction and milestones of the company’s business development objectives and marketing efforts for profitable growth in alignment with the company’s strategic plan. Providing regular feedback for revenue/profit forecasts, professionally representing the company at various business conferences, trade shows and community events as well as increase our visibility within the technical/lecture communities.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelors in a business and/or engineering related discipline; 10+ years in related discipline; previous experience in sales/marketing/business development position or a combination of education and experience equivalent. Other desired knowledge and ability include experience with crashworthiness test standards and protocols; automotive testing specifically vehicle crashworthiness and vehicle safety test standards. A working knowledge of automotive engineering principles, procedures and techniques and european and other foreign vehicle related test standards as well as experience working with automotive manufacturer’s safety group. Approximately 50% travel required.
