SHOW NEWS: MBtech signs memorandum at Automotive Testing Expo 2009

Day 1 of Automotive Testing Expo Europe saw a major deal take place, in the form of a memorandum of intent between Mercedes-Benz Technology GmbH (MBtech) and PikeTec GmbH.

MBtech wishes to make use of PikeTec’s expertise in system software development; PikeTec will provide consulting and development services for specialised tools in order to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the development process. The memorandum will allow PikeTec to tailor solutions to the specific demands of each project at MBtech, and manage changes during the development process.

Speaking at the signing, Dr Dirk Walliser, vice president of electronics solutions at MBtech, told us, “The world of automotive electronics has been changing over the past couple of years. We have more standards, more standardised platforms and architectures, and new components for vehicle electronic architectures, especially software. Software design and development will be done according to standards, mostly triggered by AUTOSAR [Automotive Open System Architecture].

“There are very important test implications, as more tests can and will be done in an early phase, and different stages of tests – model, software, component and vehicle level – will be more synchronised, which means we have to plan in the early stages of a programme to save money in the latter stages.”

PikeTec’s modelling tool provides a very efficient and sophisticated way of testing software. It’s the right decision for us at the right time.”

Asked why Automotive Testing Expo Europe was chosen as the location for this signing, Walliser added: “Testing Expo has become the most important global fair. For us there is no other, and at each Expo we launch a new product.”
